Green Bali Kratom Review: Moderate Feel-Good Strain
July 10, 20205 Kratom Products You Can Craft at Home
July 24, 2020When looking through any kratom buying guide or kratom sales page, you’ve likely come across the emphasis on 3rd party kratom lab testing. Moreover, the Kratom Consumer Protection Act that is gaining growing popularity across the country is also emphasizing the importance of kratom lab testing.
But what’s the big deal about it? Why should you care about lab-tested kratom? Why is it important, and why should that be done at 3rd party laboratories?
Let’s look into it to find out.
Why Can Kratom Be Contaminated?
Kratom is a botanical product, and it’s raw. Just like with any raw product, regardless of its origin and purpose, it can become exposed to pathogens and contaminants.
If you consume salads as sides, then you’re not a stranger to FDA warnings and recalls of contaminated lettuce. When coming in contact, for instance, with contaminated bird feces, lettuce can become contaminated. And, if not properly washed or treated, it is possible to become infected with diseases like salmonella.
Handling any contaminated or adulterated product can be potentially dangerous as cross-contamination can occur. For example, if you measure or touch contaminated kratom powder and don’t wash your hands afterward, it is possible to transfer pathogens to other parts of your body, such as your nose. It’s called cross-contamination, and in the era of the coronavirus pandemic, we’re becoming well-versed in its dangers.
So, what pathogens can be present in kratom?
Well, quite a few, such as salmonella, coliforms, mold, and yeast. Additionally, kratom can also become exposed to heavy metals like lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, and nickel.
That is not to say that your kratom contains those. However, it is possible during any phase of producing kratom powder, be it farming, harvesting, grinding, or packaging. Moreover, improper packaging and transportation of kratom can also lead to it getting wet. This can potentially lead to the development of mold that may not have been present in the first place.
What Is Kratom Lab Testing?
Kratom lab testing is a series of tests performed on kratom samples. Ideally, vendors should take small samples of each and every strain that they import and test that at an independent 3rd party laboratory.
Having an independent 3rd party laboratory execute the testing guarantees that tests are accurate and not influenced or manipulated by the vendor in any shape or form.
Kratom lab testing can determine the following:
- The authenticity of kratom,
- The authenticity of the vein type and strain identity,
- Freshness and quality of kratom,
- Amount of mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragyne, and other alkaloids present,
- Any pathogens and contaminants or absence thereof,
- Any possible substances that kratom may have been laced with,
- Presence of heavy metals.
After receiving kratom lab test results, vendors can proceed by offering pure, fresh, and high-quality kratom for sale. However, any kratom that is impure and potentially dangerous or old should never be for sale. Instead, vendors should safely dispose of it.
Why Are Kratom Lab Tests Important?
In a nutshell, it prevents buyers from getting access to impure and potentially dangerous kratom as well as ensures that only pure and high-quality products are for sale.
Without proper testing, it is possible for vendors to have potentially dangerous products in stock. As a result, buyers can get exposure to pathogens and contaminants by simply handling the product.
What makes kratom lab testing increasingly important is the lack of proper hygiene regulations in its place of origin. As a result, there is zero guarantee that imported kratom is clean.
In addition to the above, proper kratom lab testing and disposal of impure kratom can ensure that kratom reputation does not get tarnished even more than it already is.
Numerous organizations refer to kratom as a dangerous drug when any of the negative cases that have occurred with kratom being involved, had other substances present. Despite this, the media frequently attributes them to kratom when it is not accurate.
Proper kratom lab testing can minimize the instances of such occurrences, preventing possible kratom bans and other issues.
How to Know If Kratom Lab Testing Has Been Done?
Since regulations such as the Kratom Consumer Protection Act aren’t in place in every state, a buyer needs to carefully assess any vendor whom they consider buying kratom from. This can prevent them from falling victim to kratom scams.
But what should you look for?
First of all, look for any Certificates of Analysis. Trustworthy kratom vendors who want to ensure that kratom remains legal and accessible to their buyers usually ensure that buyers can easily access those on their website. The navigation menu is usually where you can find them.
When you locate those, check the content in them, such as the name of the vendor and the lab. You can even Google the name of the lab to ensure that it is an authentic one.
Moreover, scroll through the results of the test to ensure that they are up-to-date and that no pathogens are present. If you are unsure of what you are looking at, you can learn how to read kratom lab test results.
If you have any doubts about their lab testing practices, don’t hesitate to contact the vendor and enquire about them. A trusted vendor should be willing to provide proof of kratom lab testing. If you can’t find an easy way of contacting the vendor or do not receive a reply, that can possibly be a red flag. So, it may be best to avoid such a vendor, especially if they have no verified reviews or other proof of authenticity available.
Another thing you can try is check the state where the vendor is located. Certain states have passed the KCPA, which increases the chances of proper kratom lab testing being in place. The AKA GMP program is another possible indicator. However, always keep in mind that the GMP program is voluntary, and failure to comply with it simply results in no longer being GMP certified. When it comes to the KCPA, it is a state-wide regulation. Failing to comply with it results in fines and possible incarceration.
