What Is MD Kratom?
MD Kratom is a variety of Mitragyna speciosa tree native to Southeast Asia. You can recognize it by its dark green leaves.
What Does “Maeng Da” Mean?
Contrary to most kratom strains, “Maeng Da” is a made-up name. While most kratom varieties have a name that refers to their place of origin, Maeng Da is different.
The name of this variety originates from a Thai slang term that means “Pimp Grade.” Kratom vendors chose this name for marketing purposes in order to enhance the sales of Maeng Da strains. They chose such a name because it implied that this type of kratom was extremely good, high-quality, and potent.
Surprisingly “Maeng Da” also means giant water bug in Thai. Fried water bugs are considered delicacy in Thailand, and they also buzz around street lights during nighttime just like Thai pimps do, which is why the Thai use this term to refer to pimps.
Where Does MD Kratom Come From?
As you may have already guessed, MD Kratom originates from Thailand. Thai kratom farmers combined a Thai and an Indo tree through a grafting process to create a stronger and more resilient variety.
Yet, nowadays, Maeng Da Kratom doesn’t come from Thailand. After the Thai kratom ban in the 1940s, Thailand no longer produces Maeng Da Kratom for sale. So, it comes from Indonesia, primarily from the Indonesian part of Borneo.
