The idea of starting Kraoma formed in early 2014. At the time, kratom vendors were charging high prices for hit-or-miss kratom. They also had slow turnaround and customer response times. Waiting a week or longer for your order was not uncommon.
We thought that people deserved a more convenient and affordable solution for high-quality kratom. Not once in a while, but every single time they’d order.
As a result, our website went live in 2014 and we mailed our first free kratom sample on November 20th, 2014.
We aimed to set a high standard amongst other kratom vendors. Provide the cleanest, highest quality and ethically grown kratom without charging a premium. At the same time, we wanted to ensure the fastest turnaround and customer service response times, as well as fast and free shipping.
But it wasn’t going to be easy for us. We were about to embark on a rollercoaster ride.
Our Main Challenge
First of all, we aimed to provide the same quality kratom as other top vendors, but for a lesser price. We discovered that most vendors were using middlemen or buying from other vendors.
That was driving up the prices.
We decided to cut out the middlemen: Go straight to the source and import kratom ourselves.
Easier said than done.
Our next challenge was finding a reliable source. We needed one that would consistently supply us with quality kratom. Without ripping us off.
We turned to plantation farmers who grow kratom and harvesters who get it from the forest. We dealt with numerous unscrupulous kratom sources. It cost us thousands of dollars. We build relationships and trust in our sources gradually. We started with small orders and increased the amount with every shipment. To ensure quality, we tested their kratom for purity and contaminants. We also let them know about any issues that surfaced.
Our good sources always made things right and worked with us every step of the way. The bad ones screwed us over, and left us with thousands of dollars of worthless kratom.
What made things even harder was that we had no experience running a business, or building an e-commerce store. We had no mentor, and none of the people we knew had online business experience.
But that didn’t stop us. We learned as we went. We made constant tweaks to our process. Lots of time and effort went into researching and experimenting. We learned that without the right process and the right people, our goals were impossible.
We also needed to make sacrifices, such as our free time and personal savings. This was so that we could go above and beyond for our buyers, and accomplish our goal.
But, with trial and error, we eventually developed a streamlined process. It allows us to work efficiently and ship on the same day.
Next, to ship our products to different locations, we needed to find a reliable payment method. We dealt with lots of scammers who claimed they accepted cards for the kratom industry. Instead, they’d steal the money and not pay us. That led to even more research.
Then, we learned about alternative payment methods, such as Zelle, E-Check, money orders, and Bitcoin. These were so that we could provide various secure payment options for our buyers.
Building Kraoma has been quite an experience. We’ve lost multiple thousands of dollars in the process. Lost some hairs and gained a few grey ones, too.
Yet, we didn’t let the hardships and obstacles derail us from our philosophy.
We currently work with a number of suppliers form Indonesia and occasionally Malaysia.
We also donate a portion of our profits to the American Kratom Association to help preserve our rights to buy and enjoy kratom.
